Two gunmen claiming to be federal drug agents forced their way into a home in Valley Center Tuesday night, terrorizing half a dozen residents during an apparent search for narcotics.
The men, both white, were wearing black tactical gear and were armed with an assault rifle and handgun, San Diego County Sheriff’s Sgt. Bob Bishop said.
As National Guard troops complete their deployment to the U.S. – Mexico border this week, federal border officers continue their vigilance there and elsewhere.
That includes the off the coast of San Diego, where a U.S. Customs and Border Protection marine unit halted an attempt at human smuggling on Sunday.
A CBP maritime crew on patrol about three miles off the coast of Point Loma spotted what was described as a “vessel of interest” around 5 p.m.

A big man with a flowery sweatshirt robbed a bank in El Cajon on Friday and authorities are hoping concerned members of the public will help them identify the culprit.
The man shown walked into the the Wells Fargo Bank, 475 Fletcher Ave., El Cajon, around 9 a.m., according to the FBI.
He presented a note demanding cash and left with an undisclosed amount.
That brush fire burning in East County provided some anxious moments for two experienced hikers who called on San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies to airlift them to safety.
As of Sunday morning, the El Monte fire has burned more than 1,000 acres and is ten percent contained. Earlier reports of twice that size have been revised downward using a more accurate method combining aerial surveillance with GPS technology, according to Cal Fire.

Authorities area seeking clues that will help them identify a blonde who held up a US Bank branch in Vista over the weekend.
The equal opportunity offender entered the bank at 245 Vista Village Drive in Vista shortly before noon on Saturday.
She approached a teller and handed over a bank withdrawal slip that had a note taped to the back demanding all of the cash, the FBI said.
